Ultramarine Pigments

Ultramarine is famous for its characteristic bright blue color. It can be used in acrylic, oil, tempera, watercolor and gouache. Ultramarine pigments have been obtained synthetically since 1829. Previously, real ultramarine blue was a distinct luxury product because it was extracted from the semi-precious stone lapis lazuli. Lapis lazuli is still as precious as gold even today.
